Scottish Independence

With only 37 days left until the independence referendum that will shape Scotland’s future there are still so many unanswered questions. Bearing this in mind it seems incredible to me that people are strongly convinced that voting yes is the way to go.

The recent TV debate between Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling was predicted to end in favour of the Scottish Nationalist. However it appears nobody gave a copy of the script to Darling who as the Independent said “sank…Alex Salmond’s boat”. The headlines the following day were largely in favour of the Labour politician, finally Darling had delivered; “the quiet man who found his voice” was indeed an apt description. The main issue which has hounded Salmond is the question of what currency Scotland will use if become independent. Time and time again Salmond has been asked this question and has either said they will keep the pound or has told people to trust him. I’m sorry but placing my trust and my future in a man who can’t answer these questions is quite frankly ludicrous. Scotland will not be able to keep the pound; I know this, Westminster knows this, your 10 year old neighbour has probably picked up on this so why does Salmond still insist that we can?

Having volunteered this summer with the Better Together campaign all I can do is hope that I have made a difference, and that people finally wake up and realise that Alex Salmond’s plan is explicitly flawed. We are definitely Better Together.
